Leading Causes of Asbestos Mesothelioma

By Thomas Crown

Mesothelioma is a disease that will eventually attack the lungs. This illness is usually developed from over exposure to asbestos. Asbestos is the number one cause of Mesothelioma.

Asbestos and Mesothelioma have been linked to people who have worked in a factory that was lined with asbestos. There has even in the past been a possible link to people who washed the cloths of a person who has been exposed to asbestos and Mesothelioma.

Shortness of breath and weight loss is just some of the symptoms of Mesothelioma. Often symptoms do not surface for 20-50 years after exposure to asbestos. Today there is some relief for those who were exposed to asbestos. They can file a lawsuit to reclaim some expenses related to Mesothelioma.

There are a number of treatment options on the market today; however, despite many of these forms of treatment the overall prognosis for an individual with Mesothelioma isn't very good while at the same time having a survival rate that's relatively decent for people who catch the condition before it worsens.

On account of the symptoms mimicking other conditions; it can be rather difficult to diagnose a person who actually has Mesothelioma; therefore, it's recommended that people consult their doctors about the possibility of becoming exposed to asbestos and acquiring Mesothelioma.

After discussing it with a doctor and addressing any health concerns, you would probably have to go through a series of test such as a CT scan to determine if your health concerns are directly related to asbestos and Mesothelioma or not.

The purpose of the CT scan is to find out if there are any growths that might be Mesothelioma. If there is a growth, a biopsy will need to be preformed for proper diagnosis. The patients chance of survival depends on how large the growths are and if they are responding to treatment.

Depending on how soon the Mesothelioma has been detected will determine the course of action that the person's doctor will pursue. If the asbestos linked Mesothelioma is caught soon enough then there is a good chance that conventional methods such as chemotherapy have an average chance of allowing the person to go into remission.

Some of the most commonly affected people are factory workers and military officials. The reason is because a long time ago the insulation for pipes was made with asbestos. The outbreak of Mesothelioma is a recent illness that has just come to surface. This is due to the prolonged symptoms and effects of asbestos exposure. In the last fifteen years lawsuits have been charged against companies that used asbestos insulation during installation of the pipes.
