By Joe Dungait

It appears that the demand for high cholesterol natural remedies is growing significantly as people look at alternative methods to help control their cholesterol levels. This undoubtedly has something to do with the fact that people are more aware of the side effects that are connected with statin drugs now and seek to find a safer alternative. When it comes down to high cholesterol natural remedies, there are various things that you can do such as exercising more and cutting down on the amount of foods containing trans-fats that you eat, however the following three steps are an excellent way to reduce your bad and raise your good cholesterol.

1.Garlic - The health boosting properties of garlic have been known by natural therapy practitioners for many years now, and although garlic has lots of benefits for the body, one of the main areas of it helps is in the cholesterol levels. The reason it helps is because it contains something called allicin, and it is this property that helps to prevent too much bad cholesterol in the blood. The only drawback of garlic though is that it can leave quite a strong aroma on the breath, however if that is something that puts you off you can overcome this by using supplements which are widely available from health food stores.

2.Artichoke - Artichoke leaves contain a property known as cynarin, and this too is known to be very effective at reducing cholesterol levels. The best way to get this is again in supplement form, and you can buy artichoke leaf extract tablets from most good health food stores.

3.Naturally Blended Supplements-- As well as the above two supplements that we have already mentioned, there are other supplements that contain a natural blend of several ingredients which have been proven to be beneficial in lowering bad cholesterol levels and raising good. There are several on the marketplace, but ideally the one that you choose should contain amongst others the ingredients policosanol, theaflavins, lecithin, phytosterols, rice bran oil and finally D-limonene. The reason for the six is because tests have proven that they are the most effective in controlling cholesterol levels.

Ideally when looking for high cholesterol natural remedies, what you are looking for is to raise good cholesterol and lower the bad cholesterol and each of these will help you achieve that. Ultimately though, any of them have to be about alternative than going on lifetime medications such as statins and all of the health concerns that they can bring.
