Whenever you enter a state of panic, your breathing naturally becomes shallow and rapid. When you're in a very relaxed state your breathing and teach yourself to breath deeply and evenly from the bottom of your stomach. This sort of breathing wants to become second nature for you.

When you are feeling a panic attack beginning you need to instantly turn your attention to your breathing and begin breathing in this deep and regular manner. You might wish to stop what ever you're doing and sit down to concentrate on making your breathing regular again. Often this is enough to get rid of your panic attack utterly and prevent it from happening.

As this becomes second nature to you, you'll automatically breath in this relaxed way when a panic attack starts. You may would like a reminder to breath this way initially, perhaps write it on your hand or ask your friends to remind you.

If you're more relaxed then you may often find it easier to cope with panic attacks. You can teach yourself self hypnosis or attend yoga or meditation classes.

Panic attacks come from the feeling of being out of control, concern and not being able to cope. You finish up not thinking straight because of the stress these induce. With these straightforward relaxation techniques you will be in a position to prevent the strain and panic attacks from taking over.

By gaining an understanding of what triggers your panic attacks you'll be able to begin to avoid any of these situations. There are always going to be triggers you can't avoid therefore you would like to vary how you're feeling about them. Visualizing yourself being calm and relaxed before you enter the situation could be a nice technique for this. Hold on to that feeling of relaxation and calmness as you experience the situation in your mind.

Your sub-conscious mind does not know the difference between reality and imagination (simply imagine one thing painful and you will understand this is true) so you may ammend your feelings regarding these situations

From this visualization you'll realize that things that made you panic currently only make you feel relaxed. This might be a bit peculiar initially, but you will prefer it.

You can overcome panic attacks using the above techniques. Be gentle on yourself and be patient and you'll see a big difference in your levels of panic attacks.
